Charleville U11 Avondhu Blitz Winners 2011.

On Saturday last the u10/11 team took part in an Avondhu blitz in Charleville. We had a large panel on the day and played four matches.

Our first game was against Ballyhea who proved to be a strong opposition. Sonya was our goalie for this game and kept a clean sheet. The backline consisted of Ciara Biggane, Joanne, Niamh, Fiona and Caitlin and they kept the ball away from the danger zone. At midfield, Kathleen and Lauren never stopped running, helping out the backs and the forwards. In the forwards Jennifer Moloney, Alicia, Ciara McKenna, Sinéad and Chloe were a constant threat to the Ballyhea goals. Laura, Abbie and Eimear all gave 100% when introduced. This game saw some great displays of skill from both sides and a draw was the result at the final whistle.

In our second match of the day we played Mallow. Sonya was in goals and her puckouts ensured our forwards got plenty of ball. In the backline Eimear, Joanne, Jennifer and Caitlin blocked and hooked to prevent Mallow from scoring. At midfield Fiona, Lauren and Kathleen ensured Charleville kept possession of the sliotar. Riona, Laura, Emma and Grace were the forward line and despite their best efforts were extremely unlucky not to score. Sinéad, Niamh, Abbie, Ciara McKenna, Gennifer, Chloe, Ciara Biggane, Leanne and Alicia all played superbly when introduced and helped to keep Charleville in the game. The game resulted in our second draw of the day.

In our third match Charleville played Milford. In goals, Sonya brought off some great saves. She was helped out by Niamh, Joanne, Riona, Laura, Lauren and Caitlin who cleared every ball that came their way. The midfield pairing of Fiona and Kathleen assisted the forwards in creating numerous scoring chances. Chloe, Sinéad, Ciara Biggane, Eimear, Ciara McKenna and Abbie were the forward line and did their best to block every clearance. Emma, Jennifer, Alicia, Gennifer, Grace and Leanne displayed some excellent striking when introduced. This was a close game with both teams converting many of their scoring chances. In the end, Charleville were unlucky to lose out by a single point.

In the shield final we played Newtown. Sonya cleared the ball off the line on numerous occassions. Jennifer, Niamh, Gennifer, Caitlin, Joanne and Alicia were the backs and chased every ball. At midfield Fiona made several runs and created many scoring chances. In the forward line, Lauren, Kathleen, Ciara Biggane, Chloe, Sinéad and Ciara McKenna gave it their all and never stopped trying to score. Abbie, Leanne, Eimear, Riona, Emma, Laura and Grace all played their part in the final when introduced. This was a tight game with both teams showing great teamwork and skill. In the end Charleville ran out winners and the Charleville captain, Sonya Wallis was presented with the shield. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.

U 10 BLITZ

posted Sep 15, 2011 3:56 AM by secretary.charleville cork

Saturday last Charleville U10's played in their home Blitz.  First up for Charleville to play were hot favourites Effin our girls proved to be worthy opponents on the day by drawing 1 goal a piece. Into the next round they played Buttevant in a very evenly matched game the girls showed great determination and skill on the day to come out on top at this stage of the tournament Effin and Charleville were level on points with a game each left to play.  Charleville went on to play Newtown on the last game of the league which Charleville needed a win to get into the final.  This proved to be a very tough game with Newtown going up a goal early on, our girls fought back with two super goals which got us into the final.  Charleville and Effin finally met in the final where a big crowd gathered to watch this game of hurling which proved to be one of the best games of the day Charleville unfortunately lost by 1 point.  Congradulations to Effin on a great win.

Thanks to all the girls who put in such a great performance to all the parents for their support and to Denis O Sullivan,Southern Stoves for his generous sponsorship.

In the last 6 days our U10's played 3 excellent games of hurling first up for Charleville was our neighbours Newtown this game started at very fast pace after 10 mins the deadlock was broken with the lightening pace of Laura Doyle on the wing who took a shot 14 yards out to the roof of the net.  Then a brilliant save brought on by our goal keeper Rebecca McNamara was sent down the field by our full back Jennifer Moore which was helped on by Caitlin O Brien which Abbie Biggane pounced to score the second goal.  Second half proved to be a very lively affair with Alma Jones and Kate Liddy pumping High balls into the forward line which Jade Aherne converted in the third goal in the remaining mins with pressure from Lauren Biggane Kathleen Reilly, Abbie Fitzgibbon, Leanne Coughlan and Eimear Hawe Charleville scored their fourth goal through Caitlin O Brien.  Our next outing was in Kilfinane against Blackrock this game again very fast pace with our girls displaying all their skills with soloing, hooking and blocking they won out this game 7-2 to 1 goal goal scorers Laura Doyle 3-1 Caitlin O Brien 0 - 1 Jade Aherne1 -0 Abbie Biggane1-0 Abbie fitzgibbon1-0 and Eimear Hawe 1-0.  Finally last Monday evening we took a very young team to Doneraile as Doneraile is a newly formed club they played a mixture of U10's and U13's this proved to be one of the games of the season so far with releadership from our older girls Jennifer Moore, Eimear Hawe, Abbie Biggane these three girls unbelieveable on the night never backed off and pulled on everything that came their way, Rebecca was superb in goals Kathleen O Reilly, Alma Jones and Kate Liddy and Lauren Biggane were outstanding at the backs, Caitlin O Brien playing in midfield who scored a goal from 20 yards out in the last 10 mins to put Charleville ahead then our corner forward Abbie Curtin got a goal on her debut for the U10's set up by our other U8 Rachel O Brien our third under 8 was outstanding Sinead Jones running at the defence at any opportunity.  Thanks to all the parents for their support in travelling to all the matches great to see them out in force.

Charleville v Kildorrery

U11 U13

We were to play Kildorrery in U11 and U13 last week but unfortunately we ended up having to play only one game with us having two teams. We did our very best to make sure everyone got plenty of game time. We started with the U13 and brought on and off the U11s after that. This was a great game played at a very good pace. In the first half we played well and the score was 1 goal each at halftime with Sarah Sexton getting our goal. The second half we played some extremely good camogie and the battling qualities of every girl was fantastic to see. We were the dominant team all through the second half and scored 2 more goals from Sarah Hanley and Emily O Flynn. This group of girls, from U13 U12 U11, is a great group to work with and have improved so much over the last 6 months it’s hard to recognize them. It was great to see them trying new things in a game which they’ve learnt at training. We had five hand passes in a row at one stage. Then we had girls rising the ball and taking their 4 steps forward. We had girls tackling like demons and overall everyone doing the best they can. Well done to all and keep up the good work its starting to show now. Our next match for U11 U13 is against Banteer away time and date will be confirmed.

Junior C Championship V Cobh

posted Aug 31, 2011 1:32 AM by secretary.charleville cork

Cobh 6-06

Charleville 3-10

After a good league run for our junior team, attention turned to the championship on Saturday when we played Cobh at our own venue. This game had all the hallmarks of championship with great commitment, skill and determination shown by both teams. Cobh started well and at times threatened to over run us, however the Charleville girls responded well to close the gap to 2 pts, 3-3 to 1-7 at the break. The game continued at great pace in the second half and although Cobh went further ahead, two well struck goals from Amanda O’Mahony cut the deficit to a single point. However, Cobh added a couple of late scores to go clear. There was much to admire from a Charleville point of view, a score of 3-10 would do justice to a higher grade of camogie. There was that incredible save by Sharon Currtin, the two sublime overhead connections by Leanne O’Regan to raise two white flags, not to mention her perfect first touch. All in all this was a great team performance, probably the best since this team started out last year, a game in which Mairead O’Sullivan excelled and which saw Tessa Cagney’s best performance in a Charleville jersey. The girls will play a challenge this week in preparation for the clash with Ballinora in the next round. The championship format is groups of four with two teams to qualify.

Team:- Sharon Curtin, Leah Murphy, Meadhbh Murphy, Sophie Renshaw, Mairead O’Sullivan, Sinead Dennehy (1-3), Tessa Cagney, Aine Noonan, Jane O’Flynn, Kate Keane (0-4), Tina Coughlan (0-1), Amanda O’Mahony (2-0), Leanne O’Regan (0-2), Danielle Nash, Laura Sheehan, Beth O’Sullivan, Lorraine Fitzgerald, Annmarie Curtin. On the night we were without Catriona O’Keeffe and Marie Coughlan both injured, and Claudia Hudner who was on international soccer duty.

Fixture: Junior ‘C’ Championship Sunday 14th v Ballinora at Waterfall, throw-in 2.00 pm.

U11'S V CARRIGALINE 11TH JULY 2011.

posted Aug 31, 2011 1:26 AM by secretary.charleville cork

U11s v Carrigaline 11th July 2011

We traveled to Carrigaline last Monday evening in the Under 11 County Go Games. It was a beautiful evening and we played 9 a side in 4 x 10 minute quarters. These games have no score keeping as it’s about participation. In the first quarter our girls started great and fought very hard for every ball. At the break we asked each girl for the next 3 quarters to strike the ball at least 9 times, get 1 hook and try a handpass. It was fabulous to see them try to do all these skills with all achieving the 9 pucks of the ball. Sonya Wallace was great in goals blocking loads of balls and her puckouts are brilliant. Abbie Biggane played in backs and midfield striking the ball very well on the ground and for her hand as well and she also got in a hook. Niamh Kavanagh was outstanding fighting for every ball with great heart and her highlight was to see her rising the sliotar and hitting it off her left-hand side. Fiona Neligan had another brilliant game showing all her skills striking left and right while getting 2-1 for the teams efforts. Caithlin Sheehan is improving with every game and is very comfortable anywhere on the field clearing some great ball. Lauren Corrigan played her heart out in midfield and defence striking some great ball on the ground from her hand and even got in a hook. Amy Ward was very impressive been her 1st year playing camogie and fought very hard anytime the ball was near and was so unlucky not to score. Alicia Fox is probably one of the most improved players this year and if she keeps up the training and effort there will be no stopping her. Gemma O Grady did great and fought for every thing and was the bravest girl on the field even getting a hook in with her shoulder if you don’t mind. Overall it was a great match between 2 very even teams and both teams had a great match.

Thanks to Coach Tessa Cagney+ Joanna Corrigan, selector Noreen Sheehan, Medical Sandy Corrigan and supporters Joe Fox and Martin Kavanagh for the support and well done to all.

Team; Sonya Wallace, Abbie Biggane, Niamh Kavanaghs, Fiona Neligan, Caitlin Sheehan, Lauren Corrigan, Amy Ward, Alicia Fox, Gemma O Grady.
